Introduction

Our extensive experience in music education, combined with our strategic partnership with one of Europe's most renowned music conservatories, Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, led to the creation of LAB's Jazz Program.

A program designed to bring together the country's most promising young talents and either prepare them for world-class higher education studies abroad or provide an equivalent level of professional music education in Greece.

The program has been carefully structured to offer students the highest possible level of theoretical and practical training, while also providing hands-on experience in real-world professional environments, including live performances, recording sessions, auditions, and teaching internships within the LAB network.

Courses
Instrument/Vocals

The Principal Study course is the most important part of your education. Through one-to-one lessons, you will be guided by the instructor you choose. Together, you will work on technique, repertoire, and the various styles that fall within the world of jazz and contemporary music. From day one, particular emphasis is placed on creativity and improvisation.

As you progress, artistic expression will become just as important as technical development. What do you want to communicate through your music? What is your personal sound? Which repertoire and musical style best reflect who you are? Throughout this journey, your instructor's role will gradually evolve from that of a teacher to that of a mentor and guide.

At LAB's Jazz & Pop Program, we expect you to take increasing ownership of your artistic path. The culmination of your studies will be your graduation concert, which you will be responsible for organizing in its entirety. This includes selecting the repertoire, choosing the musicians, securing the venue, and managing all aspects of promotion and communication.

Ensembles

In Ensembles, you will learn how to apply your musical knowledge within a group setting and how to collaborate effectively with other musicians. Ensembles continually evolve, both in terms of repertoire and the musicians involved, exposing you to a wide variety of musical situations and artistic perspectives.

Here too, we encourage you to take an increasingly active role throughout your studies, with the ultimate goal of developing and leading your own musical project.

Music Theoretical Studies (Music Theory, Ear Training, Improvisation, Rhythm Studies, Solfège)

In addition to the practical components of the program, you will attend a wide range of theoretical courses. Music Theory provides a solid foundation in the fundamental principles of music and teaches you how to apply them in practice. For example, you will learn how to analyze and arrange pieces from the repertoire you are studying.

In Rhythm Studies, you will develop the ability to recognize, understand, and accurately notate rhythmic patterns. Meanwhile, Solfège and Practical Theory classes place a strong emphasis on ear training, helping you develop your listening, recognition, and transcription skills.

Together, these subjects will give you a deeper understanding of the music you perform, while providing the tools you need to express yourself creatively and confidently as a musician.

Piano/Practical Harmony

This course complements your theoretical studies and helps you develop a more comprehensive understanding of music by applying theoretical concepts on the piano or another melodic instrument. As a result, you will learn how to accompany both yourself and other musicians effectively.

Home Recording/Arrangement

In this two-year course sequence, you will become familiar with the recording process. You will learn how to use the appropriate equipment to produce high-quality recordings, as well as how to create arrangements for projects in which you participate.

Studio

As part of your studies, you will spend significant time both in LAB's recording studio and others, gaining valuable hands-on experience in professional recording environments.

Pedagogics

By the end of your first two years, you will already have made significant progress in your musical development. During the third year, we will focus on laying the foundations for a potential career in music education.

As the largest network of contemporary music schools in Greece, we know how to guide aspiring educators successfully through this demanding profession. You will have the opportunity to complete a teaching internship at one of the LAB schools, while also increasing your chances of joining the LAB teaching team in the future.

Jazz History

In this course, you will explore the evolution of jazz throughout its history. The primary goal is the development of your listening skills through intensive and focused listening.

As a result, you will broaden your musical horizons, gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics and demands of different musical styles, and become better equipped to meet a wider range of musical challenges with confidence and versatility.

Graduation Project

During the final year of your studies, you will be required to complete a graduation project and present it before your instructors and fellow students.
