Marialena Varela

Through technique, the voice gains freedom, truth, and authentic expression

Marialena Varela was born and raised in Corinth, Greece. She holds a Diploma in Classical Singing (2013), having studied under Maria Marketou at the Modern Corinthian Conservatory, and is also a graduate of the Department of Educational Policy at the University of the Peloponnese.
She completed the Opera Studio program (2014–2016) under the artistic direction of Chrysanthos Alisafis, as well as the Opera Workshop program (2016–2017) under the direction of Zachos Terzakis at the Greek National Opera. During this time, she participated in the operettas The Merry Widow by J. Lehár at the Athens Concert Hall and «Orpheus in the Underworld» by J. Offenbach at the Olympia Theatre.
She has also taken part in tribute concerts dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven and Mikis Theodorakis at the Athens Concert Hall as a member of the choir conducted by Kostis Konstantaras.
She has attended masterclasses and seminars with distinguished artists and musicians including Michael Chance, Sonia Theodoridou, Anastasios Strikos, Dimitris Kavrakos, Marina Krilovici, the Rembrandt Trio, Eric Harland, among others.
She was a member of the children’s choir that participated in the Opening Ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics. Since 2017, she has been a member of the female vocal ensemble Opus Femina of Corinth, under the direction of Falia Papagiannopoulou.
Since 2022, she has been studying Jazz Performance at the Athens Conservatoire, while actively performing live in jazz music settings.
