Alexandros Zotaj

Alexandros Zotai was born in Ioannina, Greece, in 1991. His involvement with music began at the age of 15, when he started playing drums and guitar as a self-taught musician, while participating in student bands. From an early stage, he developed a strong interest in live musical expression, improvisation, and collective creativity through band performance and stage presence.

Alongside his musical activity, he studied at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Ioannina, from which he graduated. Following the completion of his studies, he worked for two years in the field of education, teaching private lessons in humanities subjects and developing experience in pedagogy and communication with students of different ages.

In 2015, he began formal drum studies with Ilias Psalidas in Arta, later continuing with Kostas Dimitriou at ISM in Ioannina. In 2019, he moved to Athens and joined Lab Music Education, where he initially studied with Michalis Kapilidis before continuing in the professional Jazz Department program. There, he studied alongside Alexandros Drakos Ktistakis, Dimitris Klonis, Jan Van, Grigoris Ntanis, and Giorgos Georgiadis, focusing on jazz, contemporary music practice, and a creative approach to drumming.

Since September 2024, he has been teaching drums at Lab Music Education, emphasizing musical communication, technical consistency, and personal expression through the instrument.

He has actively participated in concerts, festivals, recordings, and theatrical productions, while also working as a session musician in various musical and interdisciplinary artistic projects. His artistic activity extends beyond music performance, incorporating elements of theatre, spoken word, and sound performance.

In November 2025, he appeared as a performer and Foley artist in the theatrical production COW|DEER, presented at the National Theatre of Greece as a co-production with the Royal Court Theatre of London, contributing to the creation of live soundscapes and stage performance. In April 2026, he performed again in the same production when it was presented at the Schaub眉hne in Berlin as part of the FIND Festival.

In March 2026, he released his first single as a Spoken Word artist.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Grigoris Valtinos, Violetta Ikari, Katie Michel, Melanie Wilson, and Irini Fanarioti, while also performing as an opening act for SODOM, GUS G., SEPTICFLESH, and DUBROVNIKS.

His artistic approach combines contemporary drumming, improvisation, and interdisciplinary performance, focusing on sound creation as a form of live narrative experience.
